Walailak University Organizes the Annual “Thuat Tumpang” Merit-Making Ceremony 2025 for Blessings and Prosperity
Walailak University held the annual “Thuat Tumpang” Merit-Making Ceremony 2025, continuing local traditions and cultural heritage to bring blessings and prosperity.
On March 11, 2025, the Center for Cultural and Sports Promotion, Walailak University, organized the annual “Thuat Tumpang” merit-making ceremony at the Tumpang Archaeological Site, Walailak University. The ceremony was held to pay homage to the sacred guardian spirit of the university, revered by members of the Walailak community and surrounding residents. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and attended by administrators, faculty, staff, students, honored guests, and members of the public.
The ceremony included Brahman rituals at the Tumpang Archaeological Site ceremonial ground, followed by Buddhist rituals at the Southern Arts and Culture Learning Center. A traditional Nora dance performance was presented by the Walailak Nora Training Center as an offering to Thuat Tumpang. Participants also jointly offered food to five Buddhist monks in a merit-making ceremony for auspiciousness.
The Tumpang Archaeological Site is regarded as an important historical and archaeological landmark within Walailak University. It is believed to be under the sacred guardianship of “Thuat Tumpang.” This annual merit-making ceremony not only serves as a religious offering for blessings but also plays a vital role in preserving faith, tradition, and cultural heritage. Furthermore, it instills in students and staff a deeper appreciation of cultural values, fostering morality and community spirit, while supporting the development of the Tumpang Archaeological Site as a living learning center for history and archaeology.
